About NWASCO
NWASCO which stands for National Water Supply and Sanitation Council was established by the government through the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No 28 of 1997 to regulate the service providers for efficient and sustainability of water supply and sanitation service provision
Why Regulate
The provision of water supply and sanitation services is a natural monopoly being run on commercial basis. The quality of the service and the pricing therefore need to be regulated to protect the customers from exploitation.
Mandate of Nwasco
The National WSS Council (NWASCO) was established under the WSS Act No. 28 of 1997 (as amended by Act No. 10 of 2005); with the core mandate to regulate the provision of WSS services in Zambia.
